PayPal has officially launched its long awaited crypto checkout feature, enabling U.S. merchants to accept payments in over 100 digital assets ranging from Bitcoin and Ethereum to USDC, XRP, and BNB. The platform integrates seamlessly with popular wallets like Coinbase, MetaMask, Kraken, and Binance and automatically converts received crypto into PayPal’s stablecoin, PYUSD, offering a 4% return on holdings.
Merchants benefit from a flat 0.99% fee during the rollout year far lower than traditional card processing charges along with near instant settlement. Funds deposited in PYUSD can then flow seamlessly into fiat balances or be held for stablecoin earnings. Through this innovation, PayPal aims to reduce costs, enhance cross border commerce, and nurture crypto familiarity among globally operating businesses.
This launch aligns with broader trends in digital payments and the rise in stablecoin usage. Analysts believe it could spark faster crypto adoption in e commerce, while reducing friction for merchants familiar with legacy systems. It also intensifies competition with platforms like Stripe, which are similarly integrating crypto rails.
