Japanese investment company Metaplanet has added another 463 Bitcoin to its digital asset treasury, spending approximately $53.7 million and lifting its total to 17,595 BTC (roughly $1.78–2 billion in value).
The latest acquisition took place on August 4, 2025, at an average cost of about $115,895 per coin. Despite a recent 7% drop in the company’s share price, this move reflects strong conviction in Bitcoin’s long term potential. Metaplanet’s BTC yield year to date reportedly exceeds 450%.
With 17,595 BTC now in its reserves, Metaplanet maintains its position as one of the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holders currently ranked around seventh. The company is steadily closing the gap with larger players like MicroStrategy, which holds over 600,000 BTC.
Company filings indicate that Metaplanet is raising capital with an eye toward further accumulation; its long term goal reportedly includes amassing up to 270,000 BTC by 2027, potentially challenging established institutional holders.
The strategy appears disciplined: Metaplanet averages its purchases to smooth out volatility. Its weighted average cost per BTC sits near $101,400, well below current market levels, bolstering unrealized gains.
Despite bearish investor sentiment reflected in stock performance, the firm argues these buys represent shareholder value by securing long term exposure to Bitcoin’s upside amid global macro policy uncertainty.
Metaplanet’s aggressive bullish bet demonstrates a growing trend among public companies particularly in Asia to convert traditional holdings into digital assets, positioning themselves for the next wave of crypto adoption.
