    Italy allocates incentives for blockchain, AI and IoT

    The Italian government is working for the development of blockchain technology, as well as for artificial intelligence and IoT, allocating 45 million euros through a financing fund to companies operating within the national territory. The regulation and the terms have been published by the Ministry of Economic Development, and the intention is also to attract foreign investments that could develop in a territory attentive to regulations, among the first to legislate in the world, in the field of cryptocurrencies.

    Starting from 21 September 2022, according to a press release from the Italian Ministry, companies and public or private research centers – even jointly with each other and therefore through consortiums or agreements – will be able to request concessions to carry out research and technological innovation projects linked to the program. transition 4.0. To facilitate the preparation of the application, a pre-compilation phase has also been scheduled from 14 September which will allow the insertion of the documentation on the online platform to be started.

    “We support companies’ investments in cutting-edge technologies with the aim of encouraging the modernization of production systems through management models that are increasingly interconnected, efficient, safe and fast”, declares Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti. “The challenge of competitiveness – he adds – requires the manufacturing industry to have a constant ability to innovate and grasp the potential of new technologies”.

    With the fund, eligible expenses and costs of at least 500 thousand euros and no more than 2 million euros will be facilitated in the following strategic priority sectors:
    – Industry and manufacturing
    – Educational system
    – Agribusiness
    – Health
    – Environment and infrastructure
    – Culture and tourism
    – Logistics and mobility
    – Security and information technologies
    – Aerospace

    The 45 million fund is divided as follows:

    • € 25 million for projects aimed at encouraging the development of artificial intelligence;
    • € 10 million for projects aimed at encouraging the development of Blockchain technology;
    • € 10 million for Internet of Things (IoT) technology development projects.
