Charles Schwab Corp. has announced plans to launch spot trading services for Bitcoin and Ethereum, marking a major expansion into direct crypto exchange. CEO Rick Wurster revealed that millions of existing clients already hold crypto exposure through ETFs, but the upcoming spot trading feature will allow users to hold the actual assets within their brokerage accounts.
This move follows a wave of institutional acceptance and is supported by recent MiCA regulations and the GENIUS Act in the U.S. Schwab now serves over 10 trillion dollars in assets, and its CEO confirmed the expectation that crypto trading will soon be a core offering. Alongside spot trading, Schwab indicated plans to integrate stablecoin capabilities but remains skeptical about broad tokenization, citing concerns around dilution and regulatory complexity. Spot trading integration could accelerate crypto adoption among traditional retail investors and position Schwab as a bridge between conventional finance and digital assets.
