CZ Raises Alarm on AI Deepfake Hacking Targeting Crypto Users

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao has recently issued a serious warning about the rising threat of AI-driven deepfake attacks aimed at crypto industry participants. His alert follows the breach of Japanese influencer Mai Fujimoto known online as Miss Bitcoin whose accounts were compromised after she joined a deepfake video call appearing to be with a trusted acquaintance.

During the call, a synthetic voice-and-face impersonation directed her to click on a “mic-fix” link, unknowingly infecting her device with malware. This allowed hackers to access her Telegram, MetaMask and X accounts underscoring that even visual authentication via familiar faces is no longer a security guarantee.

CZ cautions the community that hackers are likely to exploit deepfake tools in future scams. He advises never installing software from links received through unverified or compromised environments and always verifying the identity of video contacts through additional channels.

Security experts note that North Korea-affiliated Lazarus Group and other threat actors have already started experimenting with multi-session deepfake scams posing a real risk to high-profile individuals and corporate leadership. As deepfakes mature, platforms must reassess identity and verification protocols to protect users.

CZ’s intervention aims to raise awareness across the industry urging firms, developers and users to adapt to a new era of digital deception. Video systems, access controls, and user education will need to evolve quickly to counter the rising sophistication of AI-powered malicious actors.
